Arise Nandi Blog was politically correct in the previous article published November 15th last year, titled “Is Jubilee Party Campaign Team for Rift Valley a Hit or Miss?”. Below the article the vote was a “Miss” and President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Samoei Ruto has confirmed this yesterday during the Jubilee Smart Card Launch. It saw the dissolution of the team which comprised of few elected leaders.

The move was meant to dispel fears among the aspirants that Jubilee administration had preferred candidates. Jubilee insiders and strategists believe the situation will stand in the way of efficient recruitment of party members because those who fear going through the nominations would push voters to register in other parties where aspirants feel safer.

The decision to dismantle the presidential campaign team and instead have one that includes all the aspirants, was made by President Uhuru Kenyatta who called Party’s secretary general Raphael Tuju to abolish the team, urging him that all jubilee aspirants are members of his campaign team, including members who have registered via SMS line and have received their membership number.

The culmination of this decision was brought about by the formal and informal intelligence that some members of the disbanded team took advantage of their appointment to the chagrin of their opponents – creating an impression that they are being preferred. Deputy President Ruto publicly told over 10,000 aspirants seated at Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani that the party leader has abolished the previous team and formed an all-inclusive one.

Committee Formation

Jubilee party has adopted a unique strategy completely different from the 2013 party primaries. Beginning next week, there will be formation of jubilee campaign committees from the county, constituency to the ward levels. These committees will be charged with the responsibility to register party members as voters, keep records, monitor and spearhead party membership recruitment drive in consultation with party aspirants.

Arise Nandi observes this a as means to counter voter apathy that seems to be Jubilee’s biggest hurdle.

President Uhuru Kenyatta confirmed that the teams will also compete for national trophies in which the one with the highest registered voters will be awarded shortly after the completion of mass voter registration. It is not yet clear if the committees will be given payments.
