Nandi County youths are a disappointed lot, directing their anger and fury to one County Youth Director Alex Otieno Oyuga on failure to inform and fairly select ward youth representatives to the Youth Policy Draft meeting. In what has grown to be a blame game pitting Oyuga’s office and the Youth Bunge officials, questions still linger on who selected list of names to represent thousands of youths, and what views they tabled to the national ministry as matters affecting Nandi Youth.
Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Prof. Margaret Kobia initiated a #ToaMaoniYouthPolicy program across the country to enable youths add their voice and formulate their policies geared towards addressing challenges affecting the social class among other ills. In the North Rift counties that comprise Elgeiyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties had held their meeting in Eldoret RVTTI on 23rd March 2018.
Felix Magut said, “I’m privy that those who were given invitation by the county director identified themselves to be coming from Kapsabet sub-county. Someone should tell Alex Otieno Oyuga that we only have Mosop, Tindiret, Aldai, Nandi Hills, Emgwen and Chesumei (sic) sub counties in Nandi…”.
Nicholas Kibet, a Youth Bunge president who attended the meeting waded in and stated, “Let’s not go this far despite unfair invitation to the event. I want to ensure you that I personally represented you well.” He added that he will advocate for another meeting in the near future for further engagements. He absolved Bunge of any blame.
Over 24 hours of being prodded, Alex remained mute and had not responded by providing a list of representatives who participated by the time of going to press. This increased doubts of his efficiency in providing services to the youth of Nandi County.
However, the ministry has provided a link where every youth across the country can directly participate and provide suggestions to the government by filling a form HERE.
